For the second time this year, Charter Communications, the ISP that is supposed to send our music stream to Shoutcast, has had a catastrophic faiilure. Apparently all of Northern New England is down again. Charter bills itself now as “America’s #1 Internet Service Provider!”

Bullshit.

We are sorry, the music will be back as soon as they get their act together.

Happy Halloween!  We’ll celebrate here tonight with the following broadcasts on the stream:

7:00 PM EDT:  The Mercury Theatre on the Air’s October 30, 1938 presentation of ‘War of the Worlds’, starring Orson Wells.  It secured Wells’ fame for all time.  And it’s still spooky.

8:00 PM EDT:  Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds, featuring the narration of Richard Burton.  Music by, among others, Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues and David Essex.

After those are done, here’s an interesting version of War of the Worlds done by the legendary Buffalo radio station WKBW:  It’s a stream, so you can listen whenever you like.

Totally fascinating to see the reaction to this tragedy.
As I’m sure you are aware, this was a Norwegian right-wing
crazy, someone like our skinheads. He is asserting there are more like him, but the authorities seem to think he was acting alone.

We went to a Memorial in the center of town, organized by a national anti-racist group. There were 75,000 people, in this town of 150,000. Torches, flowers, a walk/parade around the city lake.

Similar Memorials were held throughout Norway.

I watched the TV last nite with a relative and a few of her colleagues, some state oil executives. Two of the men could not stop their tears as the events were played out. One young girl on the TV spoke about falling to the floor motionless, only to have two of her friends die on top of her. Head of security, police et al were questioned how they missed him. He actually had been on a watch list, but his actions were normal for a farmer.

The Norwegians were “insulted” that the foreign press criticized them for not having a helicopter ready to go to the scene

This event was an affront to the dignity of the Norwegian psyche and cultural identity as a peaceful, humanistic society that went even beyond the horrific loss of life…and so the Memorials were needed to assuage personal loss as well as show the world, that Norway remains the society with a heart for all.
