Cronkite is dead and the world is a far lesser place with his passing.
There’s nobody left in television news with any credibility. From 1962 to 1981, Walter Cronkite told us what was wrong in the world and with the world, and then, five nights a week, he put us at ease. And for a few moments, on November 22, 1963, he briefly lost it, reflecting the sorrow and uncertainty of all of us. We have not been the same since, and with his passing, legitimate news reporting is closer to extinction.
And that’s the way it was.
