From WCAX:
Wheelock, Vermont – May 1, 2009
A high school campus in the Northeast Kingdom is mourning today, after a student was shot and killed in a hunting accident.
According to police, 17-year Jake Kadamus of Lyndon Center was hunting with his father 45-year-old father Kevin on South Wheelock Road in Wheelock. Investigators say the father thought he shot a turkey, but it turned out to be his son. He told police he did not realize his son had moved from his hunting area.
Jake Kadamus was pronounced dead at the scene.
No charges have been filed. That will be up to the Caledonia County State’s Attorney office.
Kadamus was a sophomore at Lyndon Institute. He was also an athlete at the school. Students were informed of Kadamus’ death this morning during an assembly. Classes have been cancelled for the remainder of the day. Councilors will be on hand for the next several days. Sporting events scheduled for this weekend have been postponed.
Today is the first day of Turkey Hunting Season.
